Reclaimed Teak Furniture
Indoors
Items are supplied in their natural, sanded form (unless otherwise stated).
Should you wish to provide some level of protection against spills and stains, we recommend the use of a clear, natural wax. The brand Briwax for example is a suitable and readily available solution. Remember to purchase the ‘Clear’ option only to retain the products light outlook. Please follow the manufacturers instructions for application. Over time, you may wish to remove any stubborn stains by lightly sanding the area with fine grade sandpaper - remembering to sand along the grain.
Teak is a hardwood and whilst liquid will not penetrate, it will show on the surface. To avoid stains, immediately wipe the whole surface of the furniture equally (not just the spill area) with a damp cloth.
Just as the raw material used in the construction of your furniture tells a story, we very much hope that any new knocks, marks or stains simply become a new chapter in this story.
We recommend that you avoid placing your reclaimed teak furniture in rooms that may experience extreme temperature or humidity changes, as this may cause excessive timber movements and cracking. Do not place your furniture near heat sources, radiators or air conditioning units and protect from prolonged sunlight. Please also consider under floor heating may have some impact on areas of direct contact.
Outdoors
For items placed outside, you have two options. The first being to simply do nothing - which would be our preference. Teak is renowned to age gracefully due to the natural presence of protective oils. Left outside and the wood will naturally reach a beautiful silver-grey patina. The natural oils and dense grain will offer all the natural protection the wood needs to hold its own against the elements all year round. If you decide to cover your furniture during long periods of no use, do so using a breathable cover only.
Should you wish for your outdoor furniture to retain its brand new, beautiful honey-coloured lustre, we recommend the use of a water based teak protector. Preferably one that has ultraviolet inhibitors, as this will enhance the cosmetic appearance of the teak far better than any teak oil ever will. We recommend Golden Care which is a well-known and trusted brand. Follow the manufactures instructions for application and ongoing care advice.
Periodic cleaning of your furniture (whether treated or untreated) is always a good thing and will help prevent mildew build up. A quick wash with a soft plastic brush using mild soapy water and a little bleach or vinegar mixed in will usually do the trick. Never use a high-pressure washer.

Wood is a natural product, therefore, please be aware that timbers may experience movements and cracking throughout its lifetime.
